New Lounges at SLC Airport Enhance Travel Experience
Delta Airlines recently opened its second Sky Club lounge at Salt Lake City (SLC) Airport. This new lounge joins the original A-gate lounge and a new American Express Centurion Lounge. These additions raise the profile of SLC Airport and highlight its growth as a travel hub. Delta’s expansion solidifies its status as the top airline in the city, while American Express’ new lounge shows that Salt Lake City is becoming increasingly popular.
Details of Delta’s New B-Gate Lounge
The new Delta lounge is conveniently located just outside the B-gate tunnel. It is available to passengers flying Delta who have certain status or credit card access. Delta is also planning to expand its services into B-gate departures, making this area vital for future growth.
Unique Features of the B-Gate Lounge
While the A-gate lounge offers beautiful views of Utah’s Oquirrh Mountains and outdoor seating, the B-gate lounge is designed to feel like a cozy ski chalet. It features a large fireplace and comfortable couches, making it a welcoming spot for travelers.
Impact on Travelers and Airlines
This expansion is significant for both travelers and airlines. Harrison Archibald, a bartender and mixologist who joined Delta recently, commented on the new lounges. He said that the expansion is a sign of growth. “Salt Lake City’s the crossroads of the West, even more so now with international flights,” he noted.
Dining Options at Delta’s Lounges
However, not everything is perfect. Both lounges offer similar dining and drink options, such as bottled Bloody Marys and yellow-hued eggs. Though the dirty soda bar is a unique feature, some travelers might prefer dining options available nearby.
American Express Lounge: An Alternative for Budget Travelers
Budget travelers can also find something to enjoy at the new American Express lounge. While it requires an annual fee of nearly $900 for access, it offers a different experience. At first glance, the Amex lounge may seem small and unimpressive, but a short elevator ride reveals a more spacious area.
Experience at the Amex Lounge
The Amex lounge includes a full indoor bar and an outdoor bar with stunning views of the Salt Lake sunset. During ski season, outdoor heat lamps and a cozy indoor fireplace will make this lounge a popular choice for travelers looking for comfort.
Traveler Feedback on the Lounges
Traveler feedback has varied. Steve Martin, who visited from San Diego, found the layout of the Amex lounge a bit confusing. He usually prefers the Delta lounge but wanted to try Amex’s offerings. “It’s too spread out, too niche-y,” he rated it a 7 out of 10.
Facilities for Busy Travelers
Despite some confusion, the Amex lounge provides useful features for travelers on the go. It offers showers, soundproof rooms for calls, and a Blue Roast coffee shop with free coffee and pastries. These amenities cater to the needs of busy travelers.
Salt Lake City: A Growing Destination
The new lounges reflect Salt Lake City’s growth as an international tourist destination. “Utah county, Ogden, Logan … everything is just expanding so rapidly,” said Kirsten, a barback at the Amex lounge. “The secret’s out. If you’re an outdoors person, if you like skiing or rock climbing, everyone is excited about Utah.”
“We’re growing, B-gate is expanding. We’re getting more flights out across the world,” said Harrison Archibald. “Salt Lake City’s the crossroads of the West, even more so now with international flights.”
